Can a three-year bachelor’s degree qualify for a Korean master’s?
Check the qualification, awarding institution and normal programme length together. Prepare a focused eligibility question before paying for document authentication or choosing a graduate school.
A three-year bachelor’s degree can be considered by some Korean graduate schools. The first questions are whether your qualification is a recognised bachelor’s degree and whether the target graduate school accepts it for master’s entry. “I studied for three years” does not distinguish a completed bachelor’s degree from an associate qualification or unfinished study.
Describe the qualification separately from time spent studying
A completed degree with a normal three-year structure differs from three years completed within a four-year programme. Record the original qualification title, official English title, awarding institution and dates. If the teaching institution and awarding institution differ, explain that relationship.
Ewha’s Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation FAQ provides an example accepting applicants with an overseas three-year bachelor’s degree. Ask your own target school the same question.
Put four items in your eligibility file
Item | What it establishes | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|
Degree certificate | Award, awarding body and award date | Does this qualification meet master’s entry eligibility? |
Transcript | Courses, credits and grading structure | Is any additional academic study needed? |
Official programme description | Normal duration and graduation requirements | Is three years the normal length of this bachelor’s? |
Target programme details | Graduate school, department, degree and intake | Which rule applies to this application round? |
Ask about language and authentication before ordering documents. An initial eligibility enquiry and a final authenticated application may use different document formats. Establish the facts with readable evidence first, then obtain the final form requested by the school.
Check subject preparation after degree eligibility
Recognition of a bachelor’s degree does not settle prerequisites, language requirements, interviews or research preparation. An applicant moving from business into engineering should ask about mathematics and subject courses as well as qualification recognition. These are separate decisions.
Connect any transfer, recognised-credit or study-at-another-institution entries to their original records. Do not add unrelated periods together to make a programme appear longer, or rename an official three-year award as a four-year degree.
Send a question that can receive a useful answer
An illustrative enquiry could read: “I hold a regular three-year bachelor’s in ___, awarded by ___ in ___. I am considering the ___ master’s for the ___ intake. Can you assess entry eligibility using my degree certificate, transcript and official programme description? Please identify any additional study or evidence required.”
Keep the answer with its department and intake. Recheck its scope when applying elsewhere or in a later round. Permission to apply and the eventual selection decision should remain separate records.
