Study in Korea costs: how scholarships change your first payment
Use published 2026 Kookmin invoice examples to separate base costs, individual awards and payments. Compare tuition, housing periods and when each amount is due.
Your first study-in-Korea budget combines tuition after your applicable scholarship with the housing and other charges payable initially. Compare the actual invoice and payment timing, not only a scholarship percentage.
A real example: three Kookmin invoices with different totals
GEA's published Kookmin University language-course records cover three invoices dated 2 October 2026, four terms / 40 weeks, in KRW.
- Tuition before awards: KRW 6,600,000 — 1,650,000 × four terms
- Registration 100,000; insurance 100,000; other charges 10,000
- Accommodation charged: 659,000–1,318,000 — 659,000 × one or two charges
- Base preparation amount before awards: 7,469,000–8,128,000
- Individual reductions recorded: 330,000 or 825,000
- Payments after awards observed across the three invoices: 6,644,000–7,303,000
Accommodation billing contributes to this difference as well as scholarships. Identify your housing charges first, then match the reduction shown on your own invoice. Record the move-in and move-out dates beside the housing amount. Published Kookmin invoice examples
Separate entry scholarships from later-semester awards
Dong-A University's Korean-track entry scholarship page lists 50% of entry-semester tuition for TOPIK level 3 and 60% for level 4 under its general international newcomer scheme. Continuing-student awards use a separate grade-ranking basis. Use the award applied at entry in the first payment calculation and place awards based on future grades in later-semester planning. Official Dong-A scholarship information
Kookmin's fixed reductions and Dong-A's degree-programme percentages describe different programmes. Start each comparison row with the university and programme so the amounts stay separate.
Five fields for your own cost sheet
- Department or programme and intake
- Tuition and number of terms covered
- Your applicable award, reduction and payment timing
- Housing amount and dates, plus application, insurance and other charges
- Initial subtotal and later payment dates
Keep airfare, living expenses and document preparation in separate columns from university invoices. Matching the periods helps distinguish low tuition from a low initial payment.
