Korean university online interviews: time zones, checks and identification
Prepare the connection as carefully as your answers. Record the institution’s time zone, any pre-interview call, invitation and contact procedure for technical problems.
An online interview involves both answering questions and joining the assessment as the correct applicant at the assigned time. Separate the school’s time, your local time, any preliminary check and identification requirements. An online application does not establish online assessment for every department.
Schedule the interview and technical check separately
Yonsei UIC’s guidance requires participation in the assigned interview and a prior check-up call. Treat them as separate appointments.
Keep the original invitation. Transfer the date, time zone, application number, platform, joining method and contact details into your calendar. If a notice includes several groups, identify the row applying to you.
Complete a practical readiness sheet
Item | Prepare | Completion check |
|---|---|---|
Time | School time and local time | Check the calendar date as well |
Invitation | School-sent link and application number | Keep it separate from other applicants’ invitations |
Equipment | Camera, microphone, power and internet | Test the device you will actually use |
Space | A suitable place for clear voice and video | Arrange interruptions and noise |
Identification and materials | Items specified by the school | Prepare only materials permitted by instructions |
Contact | Technical-problem reporting route | Keep email and application number accessible |
Calculate the time difference for the interview date. Seasonal clock changes can make an old time difference inaccurate. When conversion crosses midnight, check whether the local calendar date changes too.
Rehearse in the intended setting
Follow any school-specified check first. A connection working on your phone does not establish that your laptop, browser and microphone will work together. Read whether software installation or an account is needed.
For example, an applicant using a shared venue should check the room booking, connection, power and surrounding noise. Moving somewhere else immediately beforehand can change the conditions already tested.
Record the facts if connection fails
Record the attempted joining time, error message, application number and contact time. Explain the situation briefly through the designated channel and follow the school’s instructions. Do not assume a replacement interview has been arranged.
SNU Fine Arts’ earlier international round also illustrates department-specific assessment methods. Check that your preparation matches the actual language and method stated in your invitation.
Complete both kinds of preparation
Prepare to explain the education, experience and interests in your application, while using a separate checklist for joining the interview. Organise your subject and readiness in the free roadmap. Review GEA services for programme comparison and subsequent support scope.
