Can GED or home-school qualifications open a study route in Korea?
Check a specific institution and admission route. A school diploma, equivalency examination and additional test requirements are different pieces of evidence.
Applicants with GED or home-school backgrounds need an answer for a named institution and admission route. A blanket statement about studying in Korea misses differences between routes. Describe the qualification you actually hold, then compare it with the target programme’s school-leaving requirements.
Compare routes rather than isolated answers
Yonsei UIC’s international route excludes GED and home-school credentials. Ghent University Global Campus describes different general-admission requirements and a GED/AP verification route. These are not contradictory answers for one application scheme.
An alternative route does not establish that your particular scores or documents meet it. Fix the institution, admission scheme, degree and intake before asking for an assessment.
Build a qualification enquiry sheet
Evidence | Establish the facts | Ask the institution |
|---|---|---|
Regular school diploma | School, curriculum and graduation | How is this country’s qualification assessed? |
GED or another examination | Exact examination, issuer and award date | Is it accepted under this route? |
Home-school record | Study method, subjects and results | What final qualification and evidence are required? |
Additional tests | Exact product, scores and dates | Which combination and validity conditions apply? |
Target programme | Awarding institution and admission scheme | Is this general or international admission? |
Attendance at an international school, study in English and possession of a recognised school-leaving qualification are separate facts. Start with the actual award rather than the institution’s marketing name.
Separate preparatory study from academic eligibility
A language-course certificate or short preparatory course should not be treated as a replacement school diploma. For any proposed pathway, ask who can join, whether it carries credits and what remains subject to admission assessment afterwards. Keep academic recognition and language preparation on separate lines.
If additional tests are required, establish the exact products and combination before booking. Another student’s admission story does not establish the same eligibility or exemption for you.
Record the conditions attached to the answer
Imagine a GED holder looking for an English-taught bachelor’s degree. Instead of asking only “Do you accept GED?”, the applicant supplies the issuing country, exact qualification, existing scores, planned tests and intended intake. Record the route offered, extra evidence and final submission dates separately.
Remove an ineligible school from the shortlist with its stated reason. If another route is suggested, compare the awarding institution and course again. This puts qualification checking before unnecessary spending on authentication or preparation.
Choose a useful next step
Enter the exact qualification in the free study roadmap, rather than simply selecting “high-school graduate”. When considering university matching, explain that you need actual admission routes compatible with that qualification.
