Korea study bank certificate: 7 checks before your bank visit
Match the financial sponsor, signature, bank-issued format and issue date before ordering your certificate. Use a University of Seoul FAQ example and a practical checklist to organise your proof of funds.
Arrange your Korean study bank balance certificate after identifying the account holder, required amount, issue-date rule and document format for your chosen programme. Having funds in an account and having acceptable evidence of those funds are two separate preparation steps. Ordering a certificate before choosing the recipient can lead to repeat work.
Can I use a parent's account?
The University of Seoul admission FAQ accepts applicant or parent accounts. Its financial support form must name the same sponsor as the balance certificate and include that sponsor's handwritten signature. These are the university's published FAQ requirements. Read the official UOS FAQ.
The practical lesson is to identify your sponsor first. If an application names your father but the certificate is in your mother's name, resolve how the documents should align before ordering them. When family members support you, also check whether evidence of the relationship belongs in the submission package.
Fill in this GEA preparation sheet
Check | Information to record | Common mismatch |
|---|---|---|
Recipient | University, programme, intake | Language study confused with a degree |
Account holder | Applicant or accepted sponsor | Different sponsor on application |
Required amount | Currency and threshold | Another institution's figure reused |
Issue date | Validity relative to submission | Certificate ordered too early |
Document format | Bank verification, language, original | App screenshot treated as certificate |
Supporting evidence | Sponsorship and relationship documents | Balance evidence prepared alone |
Later submission | Documents needed after the university stage | All originals sent to one recipient |
Use the relevant intake's admission guide and admission-certificate instructions to complete the sheet. A correct balance figure does not fill the other columns automatically. Record the source of each requirement so a later change is easier to locate.
Keep proof of funds separate from payments
Create separate columns for financial evidence, payments to the institution and living expenses after arrival. Adding the proof-of-funds threshold straight to tuition can misstate your budget. A scholarship also needs its own evidence rules; do not automatically mark financial documentation as waived.
In a fictional preparation scenario, parents support tuition while the student covers living expenses. List the financial sponsor, university payer and living-cost contributor separately. Connect them where they are the same person, and identify any explanation needed where they differ.
Ask a question the institution can answer
Try: “I am preparing for [intake/programme] and plan to use an account in [person's] name. Which issue-date rule, language, original format, sponsorship form and relationship evidence apply?” Including the programme makes the question more useful than asking only how much money to show.
