Can I work part time?
Key information
Part-time work requires applicable conditions and immigration permission. Check your programme, language and academic situation before starting a job.
Check when you are eligible
Official guidance generally places language trainees after a six-month wait. Degree students have a different timetable. Eligibility is not permission to work.
Check your permitted hours
Hours vary with programme, year, language ability and other conditions. Use the official table and your permit, not another student’s schedule.
Prepare in order
Confirm eligibility with the university, check the job and schedule, prepare evidence and obtain permission before working within its conditions.
Keep a realistic budget
Do not fund an early tuition payment using income from a job you have not secured. Separate possible earnings from available study funds.
General preparation checklist
- Current immigration status and permission requirements
- Language, academic and time conditions in official guidance
- Confirmation from the university and immigration office
- Whether work can begin before permission is granted
Application pathway
Check the intake and programme on the university page. If information is missing, include the selected university and your questions in the consultation.
Official resources
This is general preparation guidance. Confirm school-specific conditions, fees and permission decisions with intake-specific official sources and the responsible institution.
