When must an expected graduate submit final documents?
Plan application evidence, degree award and arrival of authenticated final records as separate deadlines.
Being allowed to apply as an expected graduate does not mean final degree documents can arrive at any time. Coordinate three clocks: the application, the actual degree award and submission of final records after admission. The date your institution can award and document the degree may matter more than your last examination.
UNIST’s Spring 2027 second-round FAQ and guide provide a concrete example. Applications closed on 15 October 2026 and initial documents on 16 October. Those dates belong to a completed application round, not a timetable for the next intake.
What does expected-graduation evidence cover?
For that round, expected graduates could apply with official expected-graduation or enrolment evidence and a transcript. The qualifying degree still had to be obtained before classes began, followed by final degree and academic records in the required form. Evidence of an expected outcome and proof of completion serve different stages.
Clock | Date to establish | Question for the issuing institution |
|---|---|---|
Application | Online and initial-document deadlines | Can an official document state the expected date? |
Degree award | Required qualification before entry | What is the official award date, not just the last exam? |
Final records | Deadline for authenticated records to arrive | When are the certificate and final transcript issued? |
International delivery | Actual receipt by the university | What time is needed for certification, shipping and holidays? |
Record separate rows. “I graduate next February” does not resolve all of them.
Ask when the certificate is actually available
A graduation ceremony and certificate availability may fall on different dates. Ask when grades become final, whether the final transcript states the award and when a separate degree certificate is available. Authentication and shipping can begin only after the relevant document exists.
In a fictional example, a student finishes examinations in late January but receives final graduation evidence only in late February. Finishing exams before entry does not by itself satisfy a mid-January document-arrival deadline. The student needs to ask about accepted alternatives and timing, or consider a later intake.
Separate initial and post-admission authentication
UNIST’s FAQ distinguishes initial application documents from the authenticated final overseas academic records required after admission. For that procedure, neither “all authentication must be completed before applying” nor “online upload removes the final-document requirement” is an accurate summary.
For admitted applicants abroad who needed a visa in that round, the final authenticated-document deadline was 15 January 2027. Other circumstances, including domestic residence, had separate scheduling. Find the row matching your location and visa circumstances rather than copying another applicant’s date.
Track issue dates and translation requirements too
The FAQ also sets requirements concerning the issue date of overseas academic documents and notarised translations for documents outside Korean or English. A correctly timed graduation may still require additional preparation if the records are too old or lack the required translation. Copy the precise issue-date rule from the relevant round.
Your tracker should contain original language, issue date, the stage requiring authentication, translation and receipt confirmation. Do not assume the same document bundle automatically works for every university.
Ask a question the university can answer
Instead of simply asking whether late documents are acceptable, provide the expected degree-award date, final certificate availability, documents available now, target degree and intake. Keep any written instructions about alternatives linked to that application.
Today, obtain an official issue-date answer from your current institution and place it beside the target university’s deadlines. Those dates help GEA organise a realistic application route and document schedule through a roadmap or consultation.
